Maintenance services and health and safety at work

Many companies outsource their maintenance tasks to external service providers, preferring to focus on their core businesses. This publication by EU-OSHA looks at how outsourcing of maintenance activities may affect both external and internal workers’ health and safety.

Traditionally, maintenance tasks in companies were carried out by specialised internal maintenance personnel. However, during the last decades there have been significant changes in the organisation of maintenance activities. Maintenance tasks might be shared by operators and maintenance personnel, or partially or totally outsourced Outsourcing has been an increasing trend in modern work organisations.
Data indicates that this trend has remained unbroken until today. The e-fact sheet “Procurement of maintenance services and health and safety at work” is now available in more languages.
